Sympathy Work

What should I send to a funeral?

This is a daily question for us at Graves Floral. Many people have never sent flowers or plants for a funeral but would like to and have no idea where to start. This blog post is going to explain and describe the different sympathy options we offer to our customers. Flowers are a beautiful way to express the love and fondness for one who has passed during a time when it can be hard to find the words to say. We understand that it is a difficult time for family and friends when a loved one passes away and we want to make ordering flowers as easy as possible. Hopefully, this post will educate people to feel more confident when ordering sympathy arrangements. Most photos are from our website that you can order from too if it is too difficult to talk about in person at Graves Sympathy Work

Casket Pieces

A casket piece is typically from the family, who will set the tone for the other arrangement orders taken for the service. A family who comes to Graves Floral for their funeral flowers will meet with one of our experienced and friendly floral designers to decide what colors or styles best represent the loved one's life and memory. We understand that every family and person is different and we will work with a family to create a beautiful and memorable setting within any price range. Casket pieces can be made in different styles and sizes. Most commonly, they are either half-couch or full-couch casket pieces. Generally, in our area, most people have open casket funeral services so a half-couch is the best option for that type of service. However, if it is a closed casket funeral, some people opt for a full-couch casket spray. Prices start around $170 and can up to $600 or more.
Half Couch starting at $169.95
Full Couch starting at $519.95
Urn Pieces

It is becoming more common for people to choose cremation rather than a burial of the body in a casket. We also make Urn Pieces to surround your loved one in a ring of beautiful and lush fresh flowers and greenery. These can also be used for a photograph during a memorial service. These arrangements begin around $149.95 and can be made larger at a higher price point.

Sprays

A spray is a one-sided arrangement that is made to hang on a wall or an easel. A spray can also be placed graveside, flat on the ground and staked down. They can be made from fresh flowers and greenery or silks. When being sent to a funeral home, a spray may be taken off an easel and hung on the wall by the funeral home staff depending on the home. Our sprays are priced from $120 and can be made for upwards of $250 or more.

A larger spray of roses, larkspur, alstroemeria
and more starting at $275.95

A smaller spray of carnations and alstroemeria

Wreaths
Open Circle $207.95
Wreaths come in a variety of shapes and sizes at Graves Floral. All of our wreaths start at $200.00 and go up from there. We offer open and closed hearts, crosses, and open circle wreaths. We can also do custom work as well.

Closed Heart $269.95

Baskets

One of the most popular options sent to a service is a sympathy basket. Some people also refer to them as slumber baskets. A basket can be made in a paper mache' urn which can be displayed at the funeral home for visitation, through the service and be taken to the graveside. From there it can be left at the grave and will biodegrade in the mache' or can be taken home by a family member. Our mache' baskets start at $75.00 and can be made for any price point. We also make baskets in large plastic decorative urns that generally start at $125.00.

So there we have it. We also do vase arrangements from $50-$150 to send to the funeral home for the visitation and service, which will be taken home by a family member after the service if you are tight on your budget but still want to let the family know you are thinking of them in their time of sorrow.

We appreciate all of our customers and value your business. Thank you to everyone.

Finally, an update!

Time for an Update!!!

Wow! We sure have let this blog get away from us here at Grave's Floral. We are planning to do our best to keep this updated a little more often than every few years 😄 We're still rocking and rolling at the oldest flower shop in Shawnee, OK, providing the fair citizens of the town and surrounding areas with the Freshest and Finest Flowers available.

If you are new to us, we're located at 1525 North Broadway in Shawnee, OK. Many of our customers have been long-time clients of ours and we thrive on repeat business. Not only do we depend on our customers but we feel invested in their lives and happiness. Being in the floral business is very different from other retail industries. We really get to know our customers through the good times of birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and new babies, but we're also there for them in times of sickness and sorrow. We may be playing a role behind the scenes but we take pride in every arrangement that leaves this shop, whether it's for a little girl's dance recital or the loss of a loved one. We want to be there to provide you and your family's flowers for all the occasions in your life.  Sometimes, a gesture of fresh flowers speaks volumes when you just can't find the right words.
